If you are a parent or carer of a child or young person with SEND there is support available for you and the wider family. This ranges from information and advice, to intensive support for families facing particular problems. You can ask for help from all of these family focused services directly, or a professional can make a referral on your behalf.
There are a number of teams involved, including the:
Family solutions team: who work through family wellbeing centres to support families with children aged 0 to 18 years old (up to 25 for young people with disabilities) on a range of issues including mental health, domestic abuse, drug and alcohol misuse, parenting and money advice.
Portage team: a free home visiting service for pre-school children with a disability or additional needs
Accelerated support team:providing a rapid-response service to young people (on the edge of care) between the ages of 11 and 17 and their families.
As a parent, you can also gain support, advice and help through the following services:
Family Wellbeing Centres: located across Brent they deliver early help for children and families
Parenting programmes: we offer courses on how to deal with early years through to teenage years
Brent Parent Carer Forum: this parent-led group supports local families by providing information, advice and a listening ear
SENDIASS: provides free, confidential and impartial information, advice and support to children and young people aged 0 to 25 with SEND and their parents and carers.
You and your family may also be entitled to:
Adaptations to your home: if your home needs to be adapted to meet your child’s needs you may be entitled to support.
Carers support: If you care for a child or young person with SEND you may be eligible for support or benefits
