Restricting traffic in the roads outside of a school for a short period at pick up and drop off times helps make the route safer for pupils, promotes walking and cycling, and cuts the number of polluting cars contributing to local air pollution. It also helps the school community with promoting active travel.
Residents and blue-badge holders that live within the school street zone, carers and emergency vehicles are amongst those exempt from restrictions.
We currently have 31 permanent school streets in the borough. Three new trials will commence this academic year and will be subject to a 12 month review.
As approved by Cabinet on 20 June 2022 our CCTV enforcement programme will start on 31 October 2022 and cameras will go live in phases over the next few weeks.
Cameras are located at all of the school streets and residents/businesses within the zone are notified of this.
