The purpose of this privacy notice is to tell you what personal information the Brent Council's My Account customer portal collects from you, how it is used, who it may be shared with and what happens to it.
What information we might collect from you and why

Your information is collected for the purpose of delivering online services, transactions to citizens and a range of associated business modules such as Council Tax, Housing Benefits, Housing Rents, and complaints services.
The categories of personal data that will be processed for creating an account include contact details like name, email and telephone number for multi factor authentication. Some services may also require further sensitive information.
Who we collect information from
The council obtains information from the following sources. This is to make sure the information is accurate; prevent or detect crime; and protect public funds.

The lawful basis for using your information
Once your information has been collected by the council, it may be used by other council departments, where necessary, to provide a complete service to you. It is for this reason that we do link your information together, for example, to save you providing your information more than once.
Who we share your information with and why
Brent Council does not process your information with third countries outside of the UK or EU zone without the safeguards being in place that are equivalent to the Data Protection Act 1998 or the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR)
How long we keep your information for
Your information shall be processed for as long as required. Once an account is deactivated, the sign in functionality is blocked and the username record is held for as long as required. Should you wish to delete the account please see Brent privacy policy and follow the process under ‘right to erasure’
Brent Council shall process your information in adherence to your information rights under the Data Protection Act 2018 and the GDPR.
What is the statutory requirement in relation to the collection and provision of your data?
Brent Council is required by law to protect the public funds it administers. We may use any of the information you provide to us for the prevention and detection of crime. We may also share this information with other bodies that are responsible for auditing or administering public funds including the Public Sector Audit Appointments Ltd, National Audit Office, Financial Reporting Council, Cabinet Office, the Department for Work and Pensions, and other local authorities, HM Revenue and Customs, and the Police.
In addition to undertaking our own data matching to identify errors and potential frauds we are required to take part in national data matching exercises undertaken by the National Fraud Initiative. The use of data by the National Fraud Initiative in a data matching exercise is carried out under its powers in Part 2A of the Audit Commission Act 1998. It does not require the consent of the individuals concerned.
