The appeals process

You have a right to appeal your planning application if:

• your application for permission to carry out works to your property is not decided within a set period (usually eight weeks, or 13 weeks for major developments and 28 days for non-material amendment applications)
• you disagree with the decision
• you disagree with a condition that has been attached to your planning permission.

Appeals are made to the Secretary of State and handled by the Planning Inspectorate, an independent government body.
