Planning applications are determined in one of two ways:
- delegated powers - a senior officer who has delegated authority from the planning committee decides
- planning committee
Larger developments, or ones which are more contentious, tend to be decided by the planning committee. Types of applications determined by the committee are set out in the terms of reference for council committees.
The planning committee is made up of eight councillors.
A decision is made after considering a report from the planning officer. This report includes a recommendation to either ‘approve’ or ‘refuse’ the application. If your an application needs to considered by the planning committee we will let you know notify the applicant and anyone who commented on the planning application.
