Gladstone Park is on a hill with views across London. It has meadows, tree-lined avenues, a walled garden, a duck pond, sports pitches, tennis courts, an outdoor gym and children’s playgrounds.
Gladstone Park evolved from the Dollis Hill Estate and became a public park in May 1901. It was named after Sir William Gladstone, the former Liberal Prime Minister, who had spent many years using Dollis Hill House as his weekend retreat. The low walls around the footprint of the house are now a relaxation area at the top of the hill. In 2003/04, the park underwent a Heritage Lottery Fund refurbishment programme which restored many features.
The Friends of Gladstone Park work with the council to protect and enhance the park. They organise some community activities in the park, including wildlife walks, gardening and litter picking.
Pedestrian access is good from all sides of the park. A small surfaced car park, open from 6am to 9pm, is accessed from Dollis Hill Lane.
This park has held the Green Flag Award. This award scheme is the benchmark national standard for parks and green spaces in the UK.
Dogs are not permitted in the children’s playgrounds or outdoor gym, tennis courts, multi-use games area. Dogs must be kept on a lead in the walled garden and area within the low black railings. There is information about dog controls in parks.
