Biodiversity is all the different kinds of life you’ll find in an area. From plants to animals and even smaller organisms like bacteria, all work together in ecosystems, to maintain balance and support life. Biodiversity supports everything in nature that we need to survive.
But as humans put increasing pressure on the planet, we risk upsetting the balance of ecosystems and losing biodiversity.
What are we doing on biodiversity?
To increase the amount of biodiversity in Brent, we are:
- changing the way our grassed areas are managed, creating 22 wildflower meadow making up Brent’s Bee Corridor
- introducing wildflowers into our meadow areas
- trialling dog waste stations across Brent, which use biodegradable bags
- installed smart solar-powered gates across Brent’s tennis courts
