The ‘Healthy Neighbourhood’ scheme aims to reduce the overall traffic volume in the area by preventing motor vehicles from using residential streets as a shortcut, so the whole community can benefit from cleaner air and safer, quieter streets when walking and cycling.
What does the scheme involve
The Stonebridge and Harlesden Healthy Neighbourhood was originally one of the schemes trialled in the summer of 2021, offering the potential benefits of quieter and safer streets with less traffic to neighbourhoods across the borough.
Following a consultation, it was agreed by Cabinet on 17 January 2022 that the scheme would be made permanent with two of the restrictions to remain; Nichol Road and Lawrence Avenue and the Mordaunt Road restriction removed.
The legal Traffic Management Orders for the motor vehicle restrictions on Nichol Road and Lawrence Avenue have been made and these are enforceable.
A review of the scheme has been provisionally programmed for April 2024. As part of this review we will consider any requests for new restrictions (such as Connaught Road) as well as introducing CCTV enforcement to improve compliance. Any changes will be subject to public consultation and further funding being made available for CCTV cameras.
