Suspending a parking bay and dispensations

If you need to block a parking, waiting or loading bay or group of parking bays for any length of time, you need to apply to suspend them.

Reasons for a parking suspension

You can apply to suspend parking bays for several reasons, including:

• home removals
• utilities work (gas, water or electricity)
• building works
• skip hire
• tree pruning
• filming
• local events 

Costs

Applications received prior to 14 days £63 per bay, per day.

Applications received less than 14 days will have an additional fee of £124.

Cancellation of approved suspension applications will incur a fee of £95.

All charges are payable in advance in order for suspensions to be implemented.

How to apply

When you apply, you will need:

• the reason for suspending the parking bays
• the location of the parking bay(s)
• how long you need to suspend the bays (including the start and end dates)
• the number of bays you need to suspend (you will need an adequate number of bays to accommodate the size of any vehicle(s) that may block the space).     

You need to apply at least 7 working days in advance. This is to give us time to put up signs and give reasonable notice to other road-users. We may refuse your application if you apply less than this time.

What happens next

If we approve your application, we’ll put up notices to let other road users know of the change.

If you applied for a suspension for a domestic removal, we will send you a permit  which must be displayed in the windscreen of the authorised vehicle.

We will consider requests made to change the suspension date, please contact us if you need to do this.

Filming and parking bays

There is a different application form for suspending parking bays due to filming in the borough.

You can apply for a parking dispensation for reasons such as a domestic removal, roadworks, building works or tree pruning.

It allows you to park on a single or double yellow line for a maximum of four hours.

You'll need to provide information such as:

• when you need it
• the time slot you need it for
• reason for suspending the bay
• the parkin bay location 
• number of parking bays you need (you will need an adequate number of bays to accommodate the size of vehicle(s) used. Standard size of a parking bay is 5.25 metres). 

Cost

• Single Yellow Lines, £36 per day (maximum 4 hours)
• Double Yellow Lines, £68 per period (maximum 4 hours)
  Skip: £10 per bay, per day

Applications that are received with less than 3 days’ notice, will be subject to an additional fee of £23

How to apply

You need to apply at least 7 working days in advance. We may apply a late fee or refuse your application if you apply less than this time.

What happens next

We will contact you once the application has been accepted, where you will need to make a payment over the phone.

We will send you a permit  which must be displayed in the windscreen of the authorised vehicle.
