Foster carers across Brent will be celebrated this Foster Care Fortnight, with local stories highlighting the difference they make to children and young people.
The national campaign runs from 11 to 24 May 2026. This year’s theme, ‘This is fostering’, shines a light on the everyday realities of fostering and the people who make it possible.
“Fostering is about making a difference. When children feel loved and supported, they can conquer anything. Seeing their confidence and radiance is an incredible feeling.” said local foster carer Barbara.
From offering stability and care to supporting children through challenging moments, the campaign highlights the vital role foster carers play in young lives.
Throughout the fortnight, residents will hear directly from Brent foster carers, with real stories shared across the council’s social media channels. These honest accounts give a glimpse into the highs and lows of fostering and what it really means to support a child or young person.
Foster carers will also be recognised at a special appreciation event, celebrating their commitment and the positive impact they have on children, young people and families in Brent.
Foster Care Fortnight is also a chance for anyone interested in fostering to find out more.
Residents are invited to a coffee morning on 13 May, from 10-11.30am at The Harmony Kitchen in Brent Civic Centre, to meet local foster carers and hear first‑hand about their experiences.
An information stand will also be available at the Civic Centre on 13 May from 10am-3pm and 14 May from 10am-midday, where fostering supervising social workers will be on hand to talk about what fostering involves and the support available.
