A new Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Brent have been appointed at the council’s Annual Council Meeting this evening (Wednesday 20 May).
Councillor Amer Agha, who represents Welsh Harp, has been elected as Mayor of Brent for the 2026/27 municipal year. Councillor Agha succeeds Councillor Ryan Hack as the borough’s First Citizen.
Councillor Kanta Mistry, who represents Queensbury, was appointed Deputy Mayor.
The Mayor takes on a civic and ceremonial role, representing Brent at official events, chairing meetings of the Full Council, and acting as an ambassador for the borough and its diverse communities.
A key part of the Mayor’s role is supporting charitable fundraising and raising awareness of important community causes.
Further details about fundraising events and activities for the Mayor’s chosen charity will be announced in due course.
Following his appointment, the new Mayor of Brent Cllr Agha said: “I am deeply grateful to have been elected Mayor of Brent which is a huge honour and privilege.
“What makes our borough so special is not just that we are so diverse, it is that people from all backgrounds, cultures and faiths live side by side with acceptance, compassion and togetherness. Every person in Brent has their own story, hopes and dreams. As Mayor I will do everything possible to build trust and bring communities closer together and champion our shared values of dignity and respect for everyone.”
The new Mayor thanked outgoing Mayor Cllr Ryan Hack for his service over the past year. During his term, Cllr Hack supported the Brent Irish Advisory Service raising over £92,000 for their vital work. He met the President of Ireland, welcomed King Charles III and Queen Camilla at BAPS Neasden Temple, and attended over 400 community events, including the 100th birthday celebrations of a number of residents.
