Brent Council has taken a major step towards cutting carbon emissions and lowering energy use with new solar installations at Willesden Sports Centre and Vale Farm Sports Centre, funded through Sport England’s Swimming Pool Support Fund.
The Leader and Deputy Leader of the Council, alongside Cabinet Members, attended a site visit at Willesden Sports Centre to view the newly installed solar panels.
Willesden Sports Centre received £271,011 to install solar panels and replace fluorescent lighting with energy‑efficient LED lighting. The installation works were completed last year, and the measures are now fully operational. Additionally, Vale Farm Sports Centre received £179,200 to support the installation of Solar Photovoltaic (PV) panels, bringing total investment across both sites to just over £450,000.
These improvements form part of a national programme supporting public leisure centres to improve energy efficiency, reduce carbon emissions and strengthen long-term sustainability, contributing to the Government’s net zero objectives.
