United against knife crime

This spring, the council is hosting a series of free events aimed at raising awareness, sparking conversation and taking action against knife crime.

Taking place from 17-23 May 2025 as part of Knife Crime Awareness Week, the programme includes workshops, walks, expert-led discussions, self-defence sessions and life-saving skills training.

Events are open to young people, parents, professionals and the wider community, offering a chance to come together, understand the impact of knife crime and play a part in making Brent a safer place for all.

Councillor Harbi Farah, Cabinet Member for Safer Communities, Jobs and Skills, said:

“We all have a role in protecting young people and tackling knife crime. This national week of action gives us the opportunity to come together as a community, raise awareness and support safer choices.

"We need to continue educating young people on the dangers of carrying a knife. Every knife taken off our streets is potentially a life saved and together we can help make our neighbourhoods safer.”

As part of wider efforts to tackle knife crime, the council is working with the Raheem Sterling Foundation and Word 4 Weapons to provide safe knife surrender points that also offer routes into education, employment and mentoring. Last year, seven knife amnesty bins were installed across the borough, giving residents a secure and anonymous way to dispose of knives.
