Join the Great British Spring Clean

Residents are encouraged to get in touch to organise a local litter picking event as part of the Great British Spring Clean.

There are plenty of ways to get involved this year, with litter-picks taking place on Community Skip days, volunteer events, and the chance to organise your own event.

Last week a group of volunteers came to Brent and collected tonnes of rubbish. The young people from Jacobs Academy did a litter-pick in their spare time around Wood Road NW10, helping to make the area sparkle.

Nathan, who is one of the Trustees at Jacobs Academy, said: “It's always refreshing to see that so many members of the community are still willing to volunteer their time to clean up our neighbourhoods. And especially when it's done with a view to show an example to the youth about social responsibility and the importance of a cleaner, greener community; that part aligns with our vision at Jacob's Academy. Hopefully we will see more people showing up consistently to help out and make much needed positive connections as well."

“

The most powerful way to deter littering is to showcase how much we all care about our borough

Cabinet Member for Environment and Enforcement

Councillor Krupa Sheth, Cabinet Member for Environment and Enforcement, said: "I know that the majority of residents treat our environment with the kind of care and attention that makes me proud. Like you, I want to see Brent looking at its finest, and our colleagues in Veolia work tirelessly to keep this borough clean and tidy.

"It is a great shame that a small minority of residents do let us down, but that's why we are bringing in more enforcement officers and higher fines to act as a deterrent against fly-tipping.

"The most powerful way to deter littering is to showcase how much we all care about our borough.

"One way of doing this by joining forces this spring to organise a litter pick, bringing friends, family and neighbours together, and showing that there are more of us that take pride in our streets, than those that would choose to blight them."

We invite all residents to get involved by organising their own litter-pick events. Simply get in touch with us at dontmesswithbrent@brent.gov.uk to arrange your event, and we will provide you with bags, litter pickers, and organise the collection of the waste.

Community Skips

Community Skips are currently touring Brent, giving you the chance to get rid of your bulky waste for free. At recent events residents have been taking bags and litter-pickers to clean up the local space, so do come along and give it a go.
