Brent Backs Bakerloo Line Upgrade and Extension

81% of residents and 95% of businesses are in favour of the proposed Bakerloo Line Upgrade and Extension, according to recent independent research.

The Bakerloo Line Upgrade and Extension, which would run from Harrow to Bromley has the opportunity to unlock new homes, jobs, and economic growth for London and the UK, while significantly improving connectivity across the capital.

Currently, areas such as parts of Southwark, and all of Lewisham and Bromley, remain unconnected to the London Underground network. This project aims to break down these longstanding transport and economic barriers. The research highlights that 57% of residents believe the upgrade and extension would improve their ability to travel to work, while 45% feel it would unlock new employment opportunities.

Councillor Muhammed Butt, Leader of Brent Council, said: “Brent residents rely heavily on public transport, and the Bakerloo Line holds a special place in our borough, with 10 of the line’s 25 stations located here. We’ve seen how transformative projects like the Elizabeth Line can benefit everyone by delivering state-of-the-art infrastructure. The Bakerloo Line currently operates the oldest trains in the UK, and our residents from Kenton to Kilburn Park deserve better. It’s no surprise that recent polling shows strong support here in Brent—81% of residents and 95% of businesses back these proposals to extend and upgrade the line, unlocking new economic potential for our borough and beyond.”

The independent polling was carried out by Survation and Norstat, surveying over 2,000 residents and businesses across the boroughs along the proposed route. The research was commissioned by Central London Forward in partnership with Southwark Council, Lewisham Council, and Business for Bakerloo.
