£53,000 fine for fish and meat fly-tipper

A Kilburn businessman has been slapped with a hefty £53,350 penalty after his businesses were caught red-handed fly-tipping waste including meat and fish.

Mr Ali Jamil Mohamed, the director of Ranya Food Centre Limited and Ranya Fresh Fish Limited, entered guilty pleas on behalf of both companies at a recent court hearing.

The charges come after Don’t Mess with Brent enforcement officers noticed very disgraceful images of the business’s employees throwing waste on to their flat roof as well as the High Road. This was a deliberate and coordinated operation caught on camera of illegally disposed of waste that should have been properly thrown away through proper business waste channels.

Footage captured by council-installed cameras showed blatant breaches of environmental standards, prompting swift legal action. The court heard how Mr Mohamed’s businesses had repeatedly ignored warnings, leaving the council with a clear opportunity to prosecute.

“

Our officers work tirelessly to keep our streets clean and safe, and this outcome shows that justice will be served.

Councillor Krupa Sheth, Cabinet Member for Environment and Enforcement, said: “This sends an unbelievably clear message that we continue to take a zero-tolerance approach to fly-tipping — we will find you and catch you if you use our streets as your rubbish bin. Our officers work tirelessly to keep our streets clean and safe, and this outcome shows that justice will be served.”

The eye-watering fine includes court costs and victim surcharges, and serves as a stark warning to other disrespectful rogue traders operating in the area.

30% more fines have been issued compared to last year since the Don’t Mess with Brent campaign started in May 2024.
