115 high quality council homes have been completed and handed over to Brent Council from developer St George, as part of Grand Union’s 1,000+ affordable homes commitment.

Spread across 11 storeys, the 115 homes are situated along the 850 metre canal frontage within Clearwater House and comprises a mix of one, two and three bedroom homes. Residents have started moving into their new homes and are already exploring the exciting new restaurants, shops, amenities, and community centre on their doorstep. The Grand Union development in Alperton includes a mix of residential, retail, leisure, and industrial use across the site.

This marks the second phase of affordable homes to be delivered at Grand Union and forms part of the 1,170 homes that will be dedicated to affordable rent or shared ownership at the development.

The handover of the homes at Clearwater House was celebrated in June with a ceremony attended by Councillor Muhammed Butt, Leader of Brent Council, Councillor Mili Patel, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Finance and Resource, Councillor Fleur Donnelly-Jackson, Cabinet Member for Housing and Residents Support, and Councillor Teo Benea, Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Planning and Property. Piers Clanford, Chief Operating Officer at Berkeley Group and Chairman of St George PLC, as well as the other members of Brent Council, Grand Union Development Trust, local residents and stakeholders also attended.

These affordable homes are much more than just bricks and mortar, they provide a safe and secure haven for our residents.

Councillor Fleur Donnelly-Jackson, Cabinet Member for Housing said: “We are proud that over the past year, Brent Council has overseen the delivery of 434 new affordable homes in the borough. Developments such as Grand Union help us in our commitment to increasing affordable housing.

“We are proud to have worked closely with the St George Grand Union team from the outset to ensure this new neighbourhood delivers what the community needs, allowing us to plan ahead and prepare for the future with the right homes, facilities, jobs and infrastructure in place to support the local people of today and tomorrow.

“These affordable homes are much more than just bricks and mortar, they provide a safe and secure haven for our residents. What’s more, they are also set within a serene, canalside location, with lots of exciting new restaurants, shops and amenities on their doorstep, helping them to thrive in their new home.”

Piers Clanford, Chief Operating Officer at Berkeley Group and Chairman of St George PLC, said: “From day one on this development, Brent Council took on a strikingly hands-on approach to working with us to deliver meaningful community engagement, high quality affordable homes and first-class open spaces and amenities for the whole of Alperton to enjoy. We therefore take great pride in being able to handover 115 homes and welcome our latest residents to Grand Union, just seven years after taking our first steps to transform a derelict industrial estate into a thriving neighbourhood.”
