Free voucher towards reusable nappies

Free voucher towards reusable nappies

Launching as part of Reusable Nappy Week 2025, a new partnership with Real Nappies for London is giving Brent families the chance to claim a £50 reusable nappy voucher.

Even part-time use of reusable nappies has a meaningful impact. Families reduce their waste, protect the environment, save money and join a community that shares experiences to build confidence and connection.

It has been shown that switching to reusable nappies can save families around £772 over 2 and a half years. That is without mentioning the huge benefits it has on the environment, as it focuses on reusing rather than throwing away single use nappies which are filled with lots of single use plastics.

Councillor Krupa Sheth, Cabinet Member for Environment and Enforcement, said: "Small changes can make a huge difference and that is why I am delighted to be partnering on this, and giving families the chance to switch to a cheaper and more environmentally friendly option."

Parents and carers with a baby under 18 months (or under 5 years with a disability requiring nappies), can apply for a nappy voucher worth £50 to help with the upfront cost of buying reusable nappies, or put towards a trial paid-for laundry service. Follow the easy to use steps to start your reusable nappy journey.

Alice Walker, project manager at Real Nappies for London, said: “We’re thrilled to welcome the London Borough of Brent to the Real Nappies for London voucher scheme just in time for Reusable Nappy Week. Everyone who chooses to reuse – whether full or part-time – is making a real difference. This year’s theme, ‘One Change – Big Difference: Empowering Through Experience’, is a reminder that no one has to do it alone. Through community support and shared knowledge, we can help more parents and carers feel confident in using reusables – for their baby, their budget, and the planet.”

Disposable Nappy Monsters spotted in recycling bins across Brent

Did you know that single use nappies are ruining recycling in Brent? One of the most common contaminators we find in blue-lidded recycling bins is disposable nappies, which then means that any good recycling is contaminated, and is sent to be incinerated rather than recycled. Contamination in recycling bins cost Brent taxpayers over £500,000 last year! Making sure you only put disposable nappies into the refuse bin, or better still, switching to reusable nappies, will help to stop any nappy monsters from lurking in your recycling bin.
