"Unveiling Brilliance" brings together selected artworks by Toyin Oriade.
Inspired by nature, her dreams and both her British and Nigerian cultures the collection of paintings, prints, and poems reflect the breadth and depth of Toyin's artistic endeavours, showcasing her mastery of various mediums and her ability to evoke emotions through her work.
Beauty in the everyday inanimate object is brought to life, whilst humour and mystery are subtly woven through various artworks. The exhibition showcases Toyin's use of various mediums including
watercolour, tie-dye, oil and acrylic, as well as text from Toyin's own poetry. The interplay of colours, textures and poetic verses provide a deeper understanding of the artist's development, highlighting the connection between her as an individual and her artwork.
The artist
Born in West London, Toyin Oriade was a self-taught artist and an award-winning educator. Having spent the past 30+ years teaching across Brent and most recently serving as the Art and Design Leader at the Stonebridge school as well as a Brent cultural lead in 2020, Toyin used her love for art to inspire thousands of children and adults alike.
In what would have been Toyin's first professional art exhibition, due to her passing in 2023, her works will be shown posthumously and for the first time to honour her legacy and artistic contributions.
To further honour Toyin's memory and her commitment to nurturing young artists, the exhibition will launch "The Toyin Oriade Art Foundation”. This foundation will aim to support the well-being of youth through art, providing resources, mentorship, and opportunities for young aspiring artists to thrive and excel.
