Carousel is an eclectic group of London based artists who enjoy exhibiting their experimental textiles.
They work collaboratively to inspire a shared passion for fibre, stitch, print and mixed media.
The name Carousel reflects a group in motion but with a nod to playfulness. It came together after the members met in the advanced textile workshop at Morley College in Lambeth. They come from a wide variety of backgrounds, from social work and education to musician, and carnival costume designer. As well as formal, gallery exhibitions, they enjoy a regular programme of fun, pop-up exhibitions in the open air.
In this exhibition the artists have challenged themselves to think beyond the surface. Using a firm foundation in textile technique, each artist has taken the group theme and developed it in their own individual style, resulting in a varied exhibition of colourful, textural and thoughtful pieces. Techniques used include printing, dyeing, weaving, knitting, shibori, machine and hand embroidery.
