There is a shortage of genuinely affordable homes in London, including Brent. To tackle this, we have established a building programme for new council homes. We have also invested in our relationships with housing providers so we can see more new affordable housing than ever before.
We have made a commitment to either build or facilitate the building of 5,000 new genuinely affordable homes by 2024, including 1,000 new council homes for Brent families.
Our aim is to help reduce council housing waiting lists and the number of residents living in temporary accommodation. We want local people to have access to suitable housing that meets their needs.
This programme has been made possible through a grant in excess of £100m from the Mayor of London and an investment of more than £200m of the council's own money.
