SEND support team - Brent mainstream schools
The SEND Support Team works to develop strong, whole-school approaches to SEND across Brent mainstream schools, including Additionally Resourced Provisions (ARPs).

Advice and support areas
We provide guidance across a wide range of SEND-related areas, including but not limited to:
- Statutory responsibilities (e.g. SEND Information Report, Accessibility Plans, EHCPs)
- Implementing the graduated approach and identifying SEND
- Assessing pupil needs and tracking progress
- Inclusion and accessibility for pupils with complex needs
- Adapting the curriculum and assessment methods
- Monitoring and evaluating SEND provision
- Developing Healthcare Plans for pupils with medical needs
- Signposting to relevant services and professionals
- Specialist ARP support through termly visits and meetings
Training opportunities for schools
1. CPD training (delivered in schools)
- Brent ordinarily available provision (formerly the Graduated Approach Framework)
- General SEND: Understanding SEND fundamentals, support strategies and the current landscape
- Inclusive Curriculums: Adapting lessons to meet diverse learner needs, including for Nurture Classrooms
- Positive behaviour strategies: Creating proactive approaches to behaviour linked to SEND
- Developing engagement and motivation: Adjusting tasks and learning styles to boost engagement and attendance
- Secondary-specific training: Customised training for secondary schools (please email us for details)
2. Statutory training Offers (delivered at Brent Civic Centre)
- Induction for new SENCOs
- Early career teacher (ECT) support
Includes graduated approach, practical behaviour strategies, and working with SEND pupils - Half-termly SENCO forums
Updates on local and national SEND developments to improve pupil outcomes - RSHE/PSHE lead support and network meetings
- Governance SEND training
