The SEND Support Team works with mainstream schools to support the implementation of the graduated approach set out in within the SEND Code of Practice 0-25.
The team’s aim is to support schools to develop high quality SEND provision.
What we do
The SEND Support Team consists of specialist advisory teachers and a SEND Support Education Advisor who cover a group schools in Brent. The team’s work includes:
- providing advisory support on areas such as identification of SEND in schools, adapting the curriculum, assessment of SEND needs, individual support plans and outcomes
- monitoring the provision of SEND in schools
- providing inductions for SENCOs who are new in role or new to Brent
- supporting the implementation of the graduated approach
- offering a termly SENCO forum with updates on local and national initiatives, and sharing good practice
- offering termly RSHE network meetings with updates on statutory requirements and sharing good practice
- advising on the production of statutory documents such as accessibility plans, SEN policies and the SEN information reports
- providing advisory support for the development of provision management for CYP with SEND in schools
Training opportunities
The team offers training including:
- training for Early Career Teachers (ECTs) in meeting the needs of SEND in the classroom
- training for SEN Governors who are new in post
- training for wider professionals on SEND in schools
- bespoke training for teachers and Teaching Assistants
