Complaints against premises licence holders
We would always advise that in the event of a complaint, you make the first contact with the trader - preferably in the form a letter (with proof of delivery).
If that does not work and you are located in the UK, Citizens Advice consumer service will give you advice. From outside the UK, contact the UK European Consumer Centre .
If you need to complain about noise or pollution for example or should one licence holder have cause to complain about another - please contact the council's contact centre in the first instance.
Appeals
If you're either the licence applicant or someone who made a representation to an application, and are not satisfied with the decision of the licensing committee, you can appeal.
Appeals can be made against a:
- new premises licence
- new club premises certificate
- variation to an existing premises licence
- variation to an existing club premises certificate
- provisional statement
How to appeal
When a licence is applied for, the licensing authority issues a notice of decision to the applicant and anyone who made relevant representations (ie representations that were not deemed frivolous or vexatious).
If you are unhappy with the decision, you can appeal.
Appeals should be made:
- in writing to the designated officer, at your local Magistrates Court
- within 21 days from the day we notify you of the application decision
There is no set form or procedure to appeal. Please contact the Magistrates Court to find out how to make an appeal.
