From 29 April, we’re changing the provider for bulky waste bookings.

You can continue to book a bulky waste collection by entering your postcode and following the booking process as usual.

The updated service will be fully in place from 1 May.

Collection service for large items of household rubbish that are too big for your bin

About

If you have large items of household rubbish that you want to get rid of and are too big for your bin, you can arrange for a one-off bulky waste collection.

This is a chargeable service, and you can book as many collections as you like in a year. If you are in receipt of certain benefits, you may be eligible for one free bulky waste collection each year.

If you are a landlord, you can now use our collection service to dispose of items when a tenant has moved out of your property.

What we can collect

We have provided examples of items we do and don't accept, but it doesn't cover everything. For any items not listed or you're unsure about, please reach out to our service provider at 020 4634 9526.
What we will collect What we won't collect 

Used, broken or soiled:

  • Bicycles (adults & kids)
  • Carpets, underlay, mats and rugs (Must be rolled. Each roll counts as 1 item)
  • Fridges/freezers - Must be completely empty (max. 2 allowed per booking). Additional bookings can be made for 3 or more
  • White goods (washing machines, tumble dryers, cookers, etc)
  • Mattresses and bed bases (max. 2 allowed per booking). Additional mattresses will require an additional booking
  • Televisions and small appliances (kettles, toasters, microwaves etc)
  • All indoor and outdoor furniture (metal, wood, plastic or mixed materials)
  • Car tyres (max 4 per collection)
  • Glass and mirrors
  • Wooden fence panels (each panel counts as 1 item). Must be identifiable as a fence panel
  • Sheds (must be dismantled). Each shed counts as 5 items
  • Garden waste (including soil, plant pots, ornaments, pillars)
  • Builders' and commercial waste
  • DIY waste (toilet cisterns, fitted radiators, sinks, shower enclosures or baths)
  • Internal/external doors
  • Gas/electric powered garden equipment e.g. lawnmowers, leaf blowers or strimmer’s
  • Kitchen units and worktops
  • Rubble (bricks, tiles, flooring, adhesive etc)
  • Hazardous waste (including paint, asbestos, gas bottles, fire extinguishers, oil, petrol or diesel, car batteries, biological or clinical waste) or any items deemed to pose a public health risk
  • Air-condition units
  • Pianos
  • Vehicle/engine parts
  • Wooden pallets
  • Items bundled together. Boxes, bags or multiple assortments of unlisted bundled items will not be collected
  • General waste (black bagged items)
  • Items not listed or included in the original booking

Price

Up to five large household items can be included in one bulky collection. We charge based on the number of items rather than per set. For example, a bed frame and a mattress counts as 2 separate items.

The price you pay for one collection is £55.

How to book a collection

You can book and pay for a special bulky item collection online. 

To complete an online booking:

  • Enter your postcode below and click 'Book and pay for a collection'
  • Select the number of items for collection and a description
  • Choose a collection date and time
  • Confirm your address, add contact details and any additional information e.g. ‘items stacked to left of bins’
  • Confirm and pay

What happens next

You will receive a confirmation email and a receipt. We will then collect the specified items from outside your home on your chosen day and update you via email or text message.

Free collections

You will be entitled to one free bulky collection per year (April to March) if you are receiving Council Tax benefit or Pension Credit (guaranteed rate).

Any further collections will be charged at £55.

Where and how to leave your items

Items must be placed outside by 7am on the day of your collection. You must leave the items on the edge of your property where they are clearly labelled and can be seen, but won't get in anyone's way.

If you live in a flat above a shop, please leave your items on the pavement outside your property without causing any obstruction to pedestrians.

Collection staff will not enter your house or flat to collect items.

You must also make sure:

  • entrances to your property are not blocked
  • our collection vehicle is able to park on your road and not be blocked by other vehicles
  • items can be moved easily

If access to your garden or property is blocked and we are unable to collect your items, you will be notified by the collection team.

If road works or difficult weather conditions are to blame, we will make a second attempt to collect your items. You do not need to contact us to arrange this.

Where we can’t collect from

We cannot collect from: 

  • inside properties
  • inside blocks of flats
  • back gardens
  • garages or sheds

Residents can approach friends, relatives, charities or voluntary organisations if support is required to place the items outside the property or block of flats.

Collections from blocks of flats

If you live in a communal property, the items must be left outside and accessible. When you complete you booking please advise us on:

  • where you will be leaving your items for collection
  • if our crew can only access the collection area through a locked gate
  • details of an entry codes (including to the bin area)
  • if we need to press a buzzer (e.g for a caretaker)

Collections from homes on the North Circular (A406)

The North Circular is a red route, which means that our collection vehicle cannot stop and collect items from your front garden. 

If you live on the North Circular you will need to place your items on the corner of the nearest side road to you, as close to 7.30am as possible on the day of collection.

Please provide details of the road where you will be leaving your items in the ‘Additional Information’ box on the booking form.

Other waste collections

Bulky waste collection terms and conditions

This agreement is made between the customer (you) and Brent Council (us) and sets out the terms and conditions of use of the chargeable bulky collection service for large items of household waste.

You will be asked to accept these terms and conditions prior to booking your collection. Acceptance means that you agree to follow the requirements of these terms and conditions.

Booking process

  1. The Bulky Waste Collection service costs £55 per collection for up to five items.
  2. You will need to make payments online using a valid credit or debit card or, if you have it, Google Pay or Apple Pay.
  3. Payment taken will show on your bank statements as being made to LITTA*BULKY WASTE, who are delivering the bulky waste collection service on behalf of Brent Council.
  4. Where we have a valid e-mail address, we will send you confirmation of the date that you have selected for your collection and a receipt. It is your responsibility to ensure that all booking details are correct at the point of booking. Please check your confirmation email carefully as any incorrectly provided details will result in the collection not taking place and your booking will be classed as a missed collection. No refunds will be issued.
  5. The chargeable bulky waste collection service will allow you to select your own date for the collection of your items. If you need to change the date of your collection, you will need to contact Litta on 020 4634 9526 or email brent@wlwa.bulkywasteservice.co.uk
  6. You can cancel or reschedule your booking up to 12pm on the day before your scheduled collection day.
  7. Collections are available 7 days a week between 7 am and 6 pm and there is no limit to how many times you can use the service.
  8. Collection slots are available in three time-slots – morning, evening or anytime. Morning slots will run between 7 am and 1pm and evening slots will run between 1pm and 6 pm. Choosing an anytime slot means your items will be collected anytime between 7 am and 6 pm on your chosen collection day. Collection times are not guaranteed and may vary due to operational routing and service conditions. If your collection slot has changed, you will be notified of your new collection slot.
  9. If you are eligible for a free collection, you must have prior approval from Brent Council who will issue you directly with a discount code to input on the booking form.
  10. Residents eligible for a free bulky collection are allowed one (1) per year and all subsequent bookings will need to be paid for. Free allowances are automatically reset on 1 April every year.

Presentation and collection of items

  1. It is your responsibility to ensure that the booked items are not mixed with any other items and are neatly presented for collection and according to your collection time slot. Items must be presented before 7 am for a morning or anytime slot and before 1pm for an evening slot.
  2. Residents in flats above shops can only book an anytime slot and your items must be ready by 7 am on collection day with your collection reference number attached to the items.
  3. Items must be presented at the front of your property and as near to the boundary of your property and the public highway as possible. Items need to be easily accessible from the road. Collection teams will not negotiate access or follow alternative instructions on the day of the collection.
  4. We cannot enter your property to collect items. You will need to make your own arrangements to get all items for collection to the front of your property (or other designated collection point depending on your property type).
  5. If you live in a block of flats, your items must be presented outside the ground floor communal bin area which are accessible to the collection teams. Collection teams do not have access codes to locked bin rooms and will not contact you on the day to request access or wait for items to be brought from your property. Requests for teams to text/phone before their arrival will be ignored. If there are unique access criteria for your property, please contact Litta by phone or email before you pay for your booking.
  6. If you live in a property on the North Circular Road (red route), please book your collection using your home address. You must then choose the nearest non red route road to your home and leave your items on that road with your booking reference number on the collection date. You must use the additional information box to advise us of the name of that road and the specific location of your items e.g. ‘items located outside number 12 High St’. Only anytime collection slots are available for these property types.
  7. If you live in a flat above a shop, your items must be out before 7 am on the day of collection, so your items can be collected before they cause an obstruction for shopkeepers and people using the public highway. Please place a label with your collection reference number on the items. Only anytime collection slots are available for these property types.
  8. All items booked as one collection must be neatly presented together for collection. If you have booked separate collections on the same day, please group the items together as you listed them in each booking.
  9. Only items requested at the point of booking will be collected. Any prohibited items, unlisted items or instructions to collect items listed in the additional information box will be ignored and only the listed items will be taken. This cannot be reported as a missed collection.
  10. If you have any items that were unlisted from a previous collection, and you want those items collected, you will have to book and pay for a new collection on another day.
  11. Fragile items such as glass items and mirrors must be wrapped before we can collect them.
  12. Mattresses need to be left leaning upright, so that they do not get too heavy in case of rainfall.
  13. Large or very large items such as white goods (American style fridges), mattresses, sofas etc may be collected separately to other items booked on the same day. If all your booked items cannot be collected at the same time, you will be notified of an alternative time or date when it will be collected.

Missed collections and non-collection of items

  2. We can only collect items which weigh up to 40 kgs and can be safely carried by two operatives. We reserve the right to not collect any items which are heavier than this when we arrive at your property. You will not be refunded for the collection if this occurs and you will have to make alternative arrangements for the disposal of the item/s.
  3. If we cannot collect your items due to adverse weather conditions, no access to your road or property due to roadworks or traffic problems, we will make a further attempt to collect those items from your property within 48 hours. You will be able to check the reason for non-collection of the booking by calling 020 4634 9526 or emailing brent@wlwa.bulkywasteservice.co.uk
  4. If there is no access to your property because of an issue caused by yourself, such as a vehicle in your driveway or unlisted items blocking your booked items, your collection will not be completed and classed as a wasted journey. We will not return to collect the items and you will not be refunded for the missed collection. You will need to book and pay for another collection and ensure that our teams have unrestricted access to the items.
  5. We cannot be held responsible for items which are taken by an unauthorised third party. You will not be refunded if your items are taken by someone other than Litta.
  6. If your collection cannot be completed on the day due to prohibited or unlisted items being present, your booking will be classed as a wasted journey. All bookings classed as wasted journeys are not entitled to any refunds because the terms and conditions were not followed.
