Wheelchairs
If you have a long-term condition or disability that affects your mobility, you may be able to get a manual or powered wheelchair. You will need a referral from a health or social care professional.
To be referred for a wheelchair, you can speak to a:
- GP
- physiotherapist
- community nurse therapy assistant
- Adult Social Care worker (if you already receive care and support from us).
In Brent, wheelchairs are provided by AJM Healthcare through the North West London Wheelchair Service.
They offer clinical assessments for adults and children who need a wheelchair (or buggy) for daily living.

If you only need a wheelchair for a short time, you may be able to borrow one from the British Red Cross.
Walking aids
If you need help with walking, the NHS may be able to provide equipment such as:
- walking sticks
- walking frames
- rollator frame
- 4-wheeled walkers for outdoor use.
These are usually arranged by your GP, physiotherapist, or hospital consultant. You can also contact Central London Community Healthcare for support with walking aids. If you prefer to buy your own walking aid, there are many private retailers online or in shops that sell mobility equipment. You can also visit AskSARA our online guided advice tool.
