Anish joined BHM as a Community Champion in 2020, volunteering to support his neighbours who were struggling during the pandemic. Anish delivered hot meals, took people out for walks, and provided his community with information about vaccinations.

Lending a valuable helping hand
Anish Damji Gohil has developed valuable skills and developed his career while playing a vital role supporting the health of his local community

I was worried about the mental health of my community, and the impact of lockdown and social isolation. Volunteering felt like the right thing to do when so many people needed a helping hand.

In 2021, Anish joined the NHS as a Healthcare Coordinator, where he visited residents in their homes and supported them to manage long-term health conditions. Following this, Anish was employed as the BHM Community Coordinator for Wembley in 2022, where he continued to build relationships with local organisations and residents to create support pathways for the community.
“I could devote more time to making a difference as a full-time employee. I speak Gujarati, and so I think lots of local people could relate to me.”
Anish has progressed to the position of a Community Lead, where he is responsible for managing Community Coordinators and overseeing BHM’s Community Grant Programme.
“I have grown so much as a professional with BHM. As a volunteer, and as a manager, I have been able to influence decision-making, and have developed transferable skills to progress with my career.”
